Het actuele paradijs van Karel Appel - The Actuality of Karel Appel's Paradise - A Collection of 10 Magnificent Sculptures by Karel Appel. Oil on wood, all made in Molesmes, France, mostly dating from 1966.
"It is november 1967.
"In his large workshop in Molesmes, France, Karel Appel is working on a number of objects and reliefs which are to form a colourful collection of figures and animals. This exuberant displays is the unmistakable proof that Appel is in his element in the Burgundian countryside. The artist who once propagated with childlike pleasure the vitality of the Cobra movement, is obviously indulging himself. His merry "monsters" -Julien Alvard's name for them -are celebrating Appel's feast of freedom, as the artist is as happy as a sandboy in France. His familiar creations are leading a new life now that they are situated in space." (Ed. Wingen)
